Steel Nation is a turnkey construction, engineering, and microgrid firm located near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the heart of the Marcellus and Utica Shale plays. From site selection through commissioning, we deliver every phase of a project under one accountable team.
Steel Nation serves the energy, commercial, and heavy industrial sectors, addressing each client’s specific needs across four synergistic divisions.

- Steel Nation Buildings — pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMBs) designed for clean, cool, quiet, and safe operations.
- Steel Nation Engineering — civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical PE designs, permitting, and inspections.
- Steel Nation Microgrids— off-grid and on-site power generation, from RICE and turbine buildings to switchgear and BESS.
- Facility & Mechanical Services — HVAC design/install, preventive maintenance, retrofits, and repairs for existing facilities.
Our Mission & History
Steel Nation History
Founded in June 2008, Steel Nation began its roots in the design-build of coal preparation plants and bath houses, primarily throughout Appalachia, but also in Montana, Utah, and other Western states. Coal specialties included sound mitigation and air handling practices to ensure a safe environment for all personnel and neighboring communities.
With the drilling of the first Marcellus Well (The Renz Well) near Washington, PA, Steel Nation personnel were invited to tour the very first completed compression station. They discovered that the building was little more than a tin can with few sound attenuation components. The station was extremely loud, affecting neighboring farms, homes, schools, and businesses. Steel Nation realigned its business strategy to designing and building the safest, coolest, and quietest compressor stations in the energy marketplace.
Due to tremendous growth and a need to expedite the design and engineering of projects, in January 2016, Steel Nation created three synergistic divisions to better serve their clients:
- Steel Nation Buildings – specializing in pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMBs)
- Steel Nation Engineering – civil, electrical, mechanical PE Designs, permitting, and inspections
- Steel Nation Environmental – storm water rehabilitation and installation, concrete repair and installation, and site development
Through diversification and the acquisition of new employees, Steel Nation has expanded its capabilities to serve emerging industries with an emphasis on water/wastewater and healthcare projects, where Steel Nation engineers have nearly 100 years of combined experience in these growing markets. Steel Nation Environmental was created via the purchase of a long-standing Landscape Supply Yard in Canonsburg, PA, located near the Steel Nation headquarters in Canonsburg (Southpointe), PA.
By mid-2017, Steel Nation has completed hundreds of successful new buildings, retrofits, and engineering projects.

Safety First — For Life
At Steel Nation, safety is an integral part of our culture. With every building that we design, engineer, and build, with every engineering and environmental service we provide, safety always comes first. When you partner with Steel Nation, you can feel confident that we are IS Networld, Avetta and Safeland Certified. Key Steel Nation field personnel are OSHA Certified, and where applicable, carry crane, lift, weld, CPR and have other major certifications at the jobsite.
With one of the lowest EMR rates in the industry, Steel Nation has never had a fatality or serious injury, and we take pride in tackling every single project with the overriding goal of “Safety First – For Life!”
