Mechanical
Mechanical Engineering Services
Mechanical engineering services provided through trusted partners include HVAC, plumbing, cranes, sound attenuation, and office build-out designs. Each building is evaluated to verify that the specified HVAC equipment is the right application, whether it is to keep gas compressor buildings cool by calculating a minimum air exchange rate or to maintain a constant pressure and temperature in a medical facility. Sound is also examined to determine the appropriate wall system to be used, as well as STC requirements for building components, to achieve the desired sound levels at sensitive receptors. Steel Nation can also prepare detailed construction drawings for office build-outs tailor fit to meet the client’s specific needs.
Electrical
Electrical Engineering Services
Steel Nation partners with experienced electrical engineers to provide a variety of electrical solutions across many applications. Some solutions include power distribution, lighting, instrumentation, SCADA, and other custom control designs. Our team can also address code compliance issues and perform a multitude of analyses and studies, to include electrical system audits, protective device coordination, arc flash hazard, system loading and voltage regulation, power factor correction, and power quality.

Permitting
Permitting Services
Our engineering staff is well-versed on the many different codes, regulations, and ordinances affecting the building. Steel Nation has established an excellent rapport with numerous building officials, plan reviewers, and field inspectors, so that construction is not delayed or hindered due to a regulatory issue. Steel Nation is also experienced in attaining the building permit and occupancy certificate for many jurisdictions. Some of the permits that Steel Nation can prepare are the building permit, E&S pollution control plans, and NPDES construction general permit. Steel Nation can also perform an analysis to verify that buildings meet energy code requirements often needed to get a building permit.

System Audits
Electrical System Audits
Steel Nation Engineering helps customers delve deeper into their electrical system with field investigations and comprehensive modeling services tailored to help facility operators better understand and get the most out of their electrical equipment.
For customers with a specific need or requirement, Steel Nation Engineering can diligently work with them to provide a solution that satisfies those requirements. But if a customer is not quite sure of the current configuration or is unclear where to begin analyzing a facility, an on-site facility electrical audit may be appropriate. An on-site audit will provide facility owners with a general overview and understanding of their current electrical system that can then be used to formulate a more detailed plan of action, in support of their particular requirements, without the need for a long term consulting commitment.
An audit can normally be completed with a single site visit, which will be followed by a brief letter to document any findings or recommendations.
Studies
Electrical Systems Studies
Energy Code Compliance Reviewing agency’s often demand formal calculations to demonstrate that a project meets or exceeds current regulations.
Lighting Illuminance Select or analyze lighting fixtures and calculate illuminance levels for a particular space. Review and compare new fixture choices with a focus on energy and maintenance.
Short Circuit Determine the maximum fault current available throughout a facility and compare to equipment withstand capabilities.
Protective Device Coordination Provide optimum settings for facility overcurrent protective devices. Maintain selective coordination between series devices to comply with code mandates and minimize area outages.
Arc Flash Hazard Analysis Provide the necessary calculations required to obtain incident energy levels for the proper selection of personal protective equipment for employees working around energized electrical equipment.
System Loading/Voltage Regulation Determine system capacity limits for equipment/facility expansion justification.
Power Factor Correction Establish the economic merit for reducing a facility power factor. Tailor a mitigation strategy for a facility.
Power Quality Investigate system disturbances or anomalies that cause downtime, nuisance tripping or equipment failures.
