Intro/Overview
My artwork explores the darker territories of the human psyche through expressive imagery, surrealism, and psychological abstraction. Across my collections, I investigate the subconscious as a place of both creation and confrontation, where themes of mental complexity, emotional conflict, introspection, transformation, and existential uncertainty intersect. Distorted forms, grotesque figures, macabre subjects, and dreamlike imagery become visual metaphors for experiences that are difficult to articulate through conventional representation.
In my practice, creating dark artwork is a means of confronting what is hidden, uncertain, or difficult to articulate. Ranging from narrative and figurative imagery to abstract and symbolic forms, personal reflection and expression become avenues for exploring what exists beneath conscious thought. These works function as an artistic outlet for catharsis while remaining open-ended visual narratives, allowing viewers to bring their own experiences and interpretations into the imagery.
Drawing
My dark drawings are primarily executed in ink, combining expressive brushwork with traditional drawing techniques to create images that occupy a space between painting and illustration. Gestural movement, layered textures, and abstract marks suggest intricate detail while maintaining the immediacy and physicality of the drawing process. Predominantly monochromatic, these original works occasionally incorporate color or digital intervention and rely on dramatic tonal contrasts to establish atmosphere, depth, and visual tension.
This dark surreal art explores psychological and macabre imagery, with particular interest in the intersection between the human condition and inner experience, covering themes such as mortality, decay, transformation, reflection, and dark aesthetics. By moving away from objective realism, I seek to alter the viewer’s perception of familiar forms, allowing them to become psychologically charged or unsettling. Through this balance of representation and abstraction, these drawings explore emotion, uncertainty, and the darker spaces of imagination.
Painting
My painting practice encompasses oil, acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media, with each material offering a different way of approaching mood, atmosphere, and expression within dark surreal art. Rather than committing to a fixed method, I allow the medium to influence the direction of the work, using differences in transparency, texture, fluidity, and application to shape the imagery.
Through a balance of expressive brushwork, controlled rendering, layering and experimentation, familiar forms often become distorted or transformed as the work progresses. Dark surrealism is a recurring language within this practice, with imagery ranging from distorted figures and surreal landscapes to dystopian environments, psychological imagery, and horror-inspired subjects.
Although much of my work occupies the territory of dark surreal art and expressive painting, it is built upon a foundation in traditional representation. Backgrounds in realism, portraiture, landscape, and observational drawing provide the technical structure from which abstraction and distortion emerge, allowing intuitive decisions to be informed by an understanding of form, light, space, and anatomy.
Sketching
My sketches serve as immediate visual records of ideas, impulses, and quick observations before they are developed into more elaborate works. Often created quickly through intuitive mark-making and automatic drawing techniques, these pieces focus on line, form, gesture, and composition rather than detailed refinement.
These dark drawings range from ink and pencil to digital sketches, frequently becoming the foundation for larger artworks while maintaining their own spontaneous character. Whether captured in a sketchbook or created digitally, these original works preserve the raw energy of an initial idea at its earliest stage.
Subjects within my sketches often take on unusual and organic forms, exploring weird proportions, unexpected combinations, and distorted interpretations of recognizable imagery. Familiar subjects are transformed through abstraction and exaggeration, allowing them to become strange, surreal, and psychologically expressive.
Digital
My digital practice is the most expansive and experimental area of my work, embracing the possibilities of digital rendering, manipulation, layering, and transformation. It encompasses fully digital creations as well as mixed-media works that combine drawings, paintings, sketches, and other physical imagery with digital intervention.
Some works begin as existing drawings or paintings that are digitally reconstructed through altered color, distortion, collage, compositing, and layering. Others are developed entirely within a digital environment, allowing imagery to evolve without the physical limitations of traditional materials.
Dark and unconventional imagery frequently carries through this body of work, alongside distorted forms, unusual color relationships, abstract compositions, and layered textures. Rather than following a fixed visual formula, I use digital processes as a space for experimentation and discovery, allowing unexpected combinations and transformations to reveal new possibilities within the imagery.
Tattoo Design
Tattoo art has long interested me through its rich history, traditions, symbolism, and diverse visual languages. My tattoo designs are created with the specific considerations of tattooing in mind, emphasizing bold composition, strong silhouettes, longevity, and readability.
While any artwork can potentially be adapted into a tattoo, this section specifically explores the aesthetics and design principles associated with tattoo art, drawing from blackwork, traditional tattooing, tribal influences, geometric structures, and contemporary abstract styles. Through dark imagery and graphic compositions, I create designs intended to function both as lasting body art and as standalone works of visual expression.

Got Questions?
Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Dark Surreal Art?
Dark surreal art combines dreamlike, imaginative imagery with darker themes and psychological depth. It often features distorted forms, unusual environments, macabre elements, and impossible scenarios that challenge perceptions of reality. By transforming familiar objects and experiences into something strange, symbolic, and emotionally charged, dark surreal art explores themes of fear, mortality, identity, the subconscious, and human existence.
What Are Different Types Of Surreal Art?
Surreal art can take many forms because surrealism is less about a specific visual style and more about exploring the boundaries beyond ordinary perception. It exists between reality and imagination, combining recognizable elements with unexpected transformations, dreamlike qualities, symbolism, and unusual perspectives.
What Is Surrealist Horror?
Surrealist horror blends the dreamlike, irrational qualities of surrealism with the fear and discomfort of horror. It creates unease by distorting familiar reality into something more unsettling. Unnatural proportions, altered anatomy, strange environments, impossible scenarios, and disturbing imagery transform familiar subjects into something dark and deeply unnatural, often evoking psychological tension.
What Are Dark Drawings?
Dark drawings explore darker themes, aesthetics, or emotional experiences through drawing. They often include imagery related to the macabre, horror, dreams, psychology, and the unknown. For me, they are a way to examine complex emotions, personal reflections, and deeper questions, using darkness as a creative tool for unsettling or thought-provoking ideas.
